Before the introduction of the Izmir Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan carried out with the European Union (EU) and the day-long Car Free Day activities, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer and Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut started the day with a walk. During the walk that started at the Kulturpark Lausanne Gate and lasted for about an hour, Mayor Tunç Soyer gave information to his guest about Kültürpark, one of the biggest green areas of the city.

Making a statement to the journalists after the march, Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut said that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is one of the leading cities in Sustainable Urban Mobility. Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, who also stated that İzmir is devoted to such issues, said, “Every time I come here, I see that some steps have been taken regarding green transformation. The new metro line, electric ferries, transportation to the city by bicycle… Good work is being done on such issues. The European Union will always support this policy of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. We are proud to support the sustainable mobility efforts of this city. İzmir has always acted in a goal-oriented manner and we are proud to support this.”
PRESIDENT SOYER TALKED ABOUT THE MUNICIPALITY’S WORK
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that they are working for sustainable transportation and a livable city and said that they carry out important projects in every field from bicycle paths to rail systems and transportation to the sea.
