Statement by Austrian Prime Minister Nehammer – Last Minute World News

After ex-President of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), Sebastian Kurz, left politics in December 2021 due to corruption investigation, Nehammer was appointed as ÖVP Chairman and Prime Minister, and was re-elected as the party chairman unanimously at the 40th Extraordinary Congress.

In his speech here, Nehammer referred to the Russia-Ukraine war and stated that his country is neutral, but they have the right to have a say today, as they did in the past, in the face of violations of international law and injustices.

Responding to the criticisms regarding his visits to Russia and Ukraine last month, Nehammer said that after seeing the events in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, it is important to do everything possible for a possible ceasefire or peace, and take action instead of just watching what is going on in the face of this tragedy. He said he passed.

Nehammer stated that their efforts for peace continue and they held various talks, “We will take the relations with Turkey to a better level. This is very important for us in many ways.” said

Referring to the aid provided to the refugees from Ukraine, Nehammer added that their fight against irregular migration will continue as before the war.

Meanwhile, it was noteworthy that Sebastian Kurz, who left politics due to the corruption investigation opened against him, also attended the congress.

NEHAMMER’S MEETING WITH PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN

Prime Minister Nehammer had a telephone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan before and after his visit to Moscow last month.

It was announced that Nehammer, who expressed at every opportunity that the talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul, called the “Istanbul Process”, “is the most important chance for peace”, will meet with President Erdogan within the scope of the NATO Leaders Summit to be held in Spain in June.
