The 9th meeting of the CHP’s Metropolitan Mayors, which has become traditional, is held in Mersin. CHP Deputy Chairman for Local Governments Seyit Torun, as well as Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen, Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Insect, Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Osman Gürün, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Albayrak, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş, Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer attended. President Seçer, who made the opening speech of the meeting, said, “I hope that the hot sun of Mersin will reflect as a great hope to all of Turkey from here.”
“EVERY DAY DIFFERENT AGENDA”
Saying that Turkey is going through extraordinary days and citizens are faced with a different agenda every day, Seyit Torun, Deputy Chairman of the CHP for Local Governments, said, “Really, a new agenda every morning when we wake up. Turkey is struggling with incredible problems. Yesterday, they protested the judicial decision regarding Canan Kaftancıoğlu. We were in Istanbul to declare that we do not recognize this judicial decision. Indeed, this government has not been able to digest the March 31-June 23 elections. In every process, either by judicial decision, by constantly inspecting our municipalities, by constantly putting pressure on our municipalities, by shutting down public resources, by using the majority in the Assembly. They are doing everything to prevent them from working, to prevent them from serving. After all, don’t we have citizens in our municipalities who support different parties, the ruling party? is blocking our way. Yes, the ban on politics regarding Canan Kaftancıoğlu had a certain penalty, but we never accept it. Canan Kaftancıoğlu will continue her duty as our Istanbul Provincial President.”
“TOGETHER WE PAYED HEAVY FOR THIS PRICE”
Referring to the visit they made with CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in Istanbul, Torun said, “We also visited SADAT in Istanbul under the presidency of our Chairman. Can you imagine that this country, the state has security units. There is the military, the police, the intelligence to provide all kinds of external security and internal security, but you are establishing a structure that we do not know what is unique to you and you are creating a structure against the state behind closed doors. They have tried this in the past, but this nation has paid a heavy price. We all paid a heavy price. We will never allow this and we will follow the emergence of this structure in a manner befitting a democratic state of law.”
“OUR HEADS ARE PERFORMING GOOD SERVICES”
Torun said that despite the negativities they faced, the mayors of the metropolitan municipality of CHP performed very good services and continued as follows:
“No matter what they do, they will not succeed. Despite all kinds of difficulties, despite all kinds of difficulties, despite the closure of public resources to them, despite Iller Bank’s refusal to give a letter of guarantee, despite the public banks’ refusal to provide loans, despite the discriminatory behavior of the ministries, they serve successfully. They don’t complain at all. They serve with the understanding of transparent municipality by meeting the primary needs of our citizens, without dealing with such crazy projects, and using their resources on the spot. We are proud of you. We believe that your success and the satisfaction of our citizens will generally pave the way for power. We succeeded locally, I hope we will succeed in general and we will establish the power of the people together. I wish this workshop and meeting to be successful. I believe that we will touch upon very good topics and we will leave here much better equipped.”
