Defendants acquitted in sexual assault case against Eda Nur Kaplan
Eda Nur Kaplan, who committed suicide by jumping from the 15th floor of a building in Ankara’s Çankaya district, alleged that she was sexually assaulted before her death.
At the hearing held at the Ankara 12th High Criminal Court, detained defendants Yusuf Güzelyurt and Mehmet Arduçoğlu, Kaplan’s mother and the lawyers of the parties were present.
Announcing the opinion in the previous session, the prosecutor said ‘about the defendants Güzelyurt and Arduçoğlu’qualified sexual assaultHe demanded a prison sentence of up to 18 years for the crime. Speaking his last words before the verdict, the accused Arduçoğlu stated that the Kaplan family sought justice in television programs, and that he had full confidence in justice and was innocent. The other defendant Güzelyurt, on the other hand, declared that all the evidence was in the middle and that his neck was thinner than a hair against the verdict. Announcing the verdict after the statements of the detained defendants, the court ruled for the acquittal of Arduçoğlu and Güzelyurt.
