The protests that started in Sri Lanka due to the economic crisis continue intensifying despite the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The government has ordered the army to shoot on sight those who break the law, loot and vandalize during the protests.
Thousands of military personnel have been deployed to patrol the streets of the capital, Colombo, as demonstrators demand the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Demonstrators set fire to Prime Minister Rajapaksa’s official residence in Colombo, as well as a house converted into a museum belonging to his family. The demonstrators, who also set fire to the vehicles in front of the official residence, burned more than 50 houses belonging to ministers and deputies.
8 PEOPLE LOSE AT THE SHOWS
It was stated that 8 people lost their lives during the demonstrations that intensified yesterday and approximately 200 people were injured. While the violence of the demonstrations decreased towards the morning hours, the curfew was extended until Thursday.
