Explosions in the vicinity of Kiev .. and the closure of the city’s airport

Our correspondent said that the explosions may be caused by anti-aircraft or artillery in the vicinity of the Ukrainian capital.

He referred to a state of “extreme tension” in Kiev after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation in Ukraine.

Interfax news agency, quoting local media, said that gunfire was heard on Thursday near the main Boryspil airport in Kiev, noting that the airport had canceled all flights.

The Russian President authorized the forces to carry out a special military operation in the Donbass region of Ukraine.

Putin stressed that Russia could not tolerate what he described as threats from Ukraine.
