Members of Congress call for Biden to return the Houthis to the terrorist list

A memo sent to the White House on Wednesday stated that withdrawing the Houthi militia’s designation from the list of terrorist organizations “did nothing” to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The message, which was published by the account of the Emirati embassy in the United States on Twitter, confirmed that removing the name of the Houthi militia from the list of terrorist organizations resulted in more violence from the Iranian-backed group.

On January 22, a senior White House official told “Sky News Arabia” that the reclassification of the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization is under consideration, two days after Biden confirmed the same thing.

The United States reconsidered the issue of including the Houthi militia on the list of terrorist organizations, following the attacks it launched last January on civilian facilities in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of civilians.

The administration of President Biden canceled the designation of the Houthis as a terrorist group in February 2021, reversing the decision of the administration of former President Donald Trump to include them on this list.
