The attack comes as tensions between Ukraine and Russia are reaching a boiling point, amid growing fears of a Russian attack.
On Thursday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Demyaro Kuleba said that the Ukrainian village of Stanitsya Luhanska was bombed with heavy weapons from the east of the country in Donbass.
Kuleba said, in a tweet on his official account on Twitter: “The Ukrainian village of Stanitsya Luhanska was bombed with heavy weapons from the occupied lands in Donbass…the civilian infrastructure was damaged.”
The Ukrainian authorities indicated that a kindergarten in the village of Stanitsia Luhanska was bombed, and it was full of children at the time of the attack, but none of them were injured, while two teachers were injured.
The Ukrainian army’s joint forces operation said that civilians in the area had been evacuated in light of the bombing.
Pictures from the scene published by the Journalistic Freedoms Observatory showed several women sheltering in a bunker, while what appeared to be the main play area in the kindergarten was destroyed. The bombing destroyed the wall, leaving an intervening gap, and scattered debris on the ground next to children’s toys.
The bombing came as monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe reported an uptick in ceasefire violations and a string of attacks along the front line on Thursday alone.
